EnviStats India 2023 Volume-II: Environment Accounts.

This year's publication includes some of the very important domains of the Environment viz. Material Flow Accounts, Solid Waste Accounts, Fish Provisioning Services, Soil Erosion Prevention Services by the Forests. Amongst these, the subjects of Material Flow Accounts and Soil Erosion Prevention services provided by the Forests have been attempted for the first time. The following paragraphs briefly describe the coverage of the publication: (i) Material Flow Accounts (MFA)- The core Accounts of the MFA has been compiled for the years 2011-12, 2015-16 and to 2021-22 using data primarily from M/o Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Indian Bureau of Mines, and Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics. (ii) Solid Waste Accounts- In the last publication the solid waste accounts had been compiled on a pilot basis for the State of Delhi. This year accounts have been compiled for 7 more States viz. Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra for the years 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21. (iii) Fish Provisioning Services (FPS)- In the last publication Fish Provisioning Services had been compiled for 3 states namely- Haryana, Andhra-Pradesh and Rajasthan. This year the FPS have been estimated for 3 more States- Bihar, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. (iv) Soil Erosion Prevention Services provided by the Forests- The Soil Erosion Prevention Services provided by the Forests have been estimated for the year 2020-21 for 2 districts of India on a pilot basis using geo-spatial data making use of the RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) model.
