Compilation of Environmental Accounts Workshop organized by NSO India

With the aim to sensitize about the concept of Environment Accounting at the Sub-National level, National Statistical Office, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (NSO, MoSPI), Government of India organized a two-day state level capacity building workshop on “Compilation of Environment Accounts” during 19-20 February, 2024 at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. The workshop was organized primarily for the States of the Southern Region and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

This workshop aimed at raising awareness regarding the System of Environment Economic Accounts (SEEA) and emphasizing the significance of compiling Environment Accounts at the subnational level. Participants representing various Department of State Governments such as State Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES), State Forest Departments, State Planning Department, State Pollution Control Department, State Biodiversity Board, State Fisheries Board and other stakeholders attended the workshop and showed tremendous enthusiasm towards initiating compilation of the Environment Accounts at the state level.  

All the participating States were also suggested for constituting an Inter Departmental Group (IDG) for better cooperation and support from the various stakeholder departments at the sub-national level for the compilation of Environment Accounts.
