The Second Progress Report of the third Phase of the G20 Data Gaps Initiative (DGI-3) was published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in October 2024. It was prepared by IMF in collaboration with the Inter-Agency Group on Economic and Financial Statistics (IAG) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB) Secretariat, and participating economies.  The report provides an overview of the progress in implementing the DGI-3 recommendations since August 2023.  It includes a recap of the activities during the year, a  summary of the progress made by the participating economies implementing the of the third phase of the G20 Data Gaps Initiative (DGI-3), and the way forward.

The DGI-3 focuses on four main topics: Climate change, Household distributional information, Fintech and financial Inclusion, and Access to private and administrative data and data sharing. A set of 14 recommendations have been agreed by the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of the G20 and participating economies.

Several modules of the System of Environmental Economic Accounting – Central Framework (SEEA) support the implementation of the DGI- 3, in particular Air Emission Accounts for Recommendation 1; Energy Accounts for Recommendation 2; Climate-impacting subsidies for recommendation 6; and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Expenditures for Recommendation 7.

Several thematic workshops will be organized in 2025 to support the initiative.
