Update on the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting revision
The revision of the ecosystem accounting framework was launched in March 2018 by the UNCEEA and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and is based on a Revision Issues Note that has been approved by the UNCEEA and has been distributed to a wider ecosystem accounting expert community for additional input. Since the launch, four working groups have been created, each on one of the revision research area – spatial units, ecosystem condition, ecosystem services and valuation. The working groups are led by an area lead and each have 4-5 members, all of whom are experts in the respective fields. The area leads are Sjoerd Schenau (Statistics Netherlands), Joachim Maes (European Commission Joint Research Center), Lars Heins (Wageningen University) and Rocky Harris (Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)) for spatial units, ecosystem condition, ecosystem services and valuation respectively. In addition, the editor of the SEEA EEA is Carl Obst. The first output of the groups is the preparation of discussion papers for the upcoming Forum of Experts on SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting in June 2018. The Forum is expected to provide input into the substantive and procedural orientation of the working groups. Please follow the updates on the revision process on its dedicated webpage.
