Second Mission to Mexico for the project Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services
Nearly 300 participants attended the 2nd World Forum on Ecosystem Governance held in China from 5-7 November 2018. The forum addressed key topics related to the sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystem services, including ecosystem accounting and the SEEA-Experimental Ecosystem Accounting.
The Regional Training Workshop on the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting for Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean is jointly organized by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment), and the European Union.
The President of the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), Roberto Olinto Ramos, unveiled Brazil’s water accounts (English) at the 8th World Water Forum, held in Brasilia from 17-23 March 2018.
South Africa is one of the five pilot countries participating in an international project on ecosystem accounting. The project, entitled Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services, is led by the United Nations Statistics Division and UN Environment, with funding from the European Union.
Stats SA and SANBI are leading the project in South Africa and will work closely with a range of national and sub-national stakeholders to further develop ecosystem accounts nationally.
