National Stakeholder Workshop in South Africa- Ecosystem Accounting

South Africa is one of the five pilot countries participating in an international project on ecosystem accounting.  The project, entitled Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services, is led by the United Nations Statistics Division and UN Environment, with funding from the European Union.

Stats SA and SANBI are leading the project in South Africa and will work closely with a range of national and sub-national stakeholders to further develop ecosystem accounts nationally.

Expert Meeting on Ecosystem Valuation in the context of Natural Capital Accounting

The objective of the meeting is to establish and strengthen the dialogue between policy makers, environmental economists, ecosystem valuation practitioners and accountants, in the context of the Aichi Target 2 which calls to mainstream biodiversity in national accounts and action 5 of the European Union Biodiversity strategy of 2020, which calls to map and assess the state of ecosystems and their services, including economic valuation and integration into accounting and reporting systems.

Thirteenth meeting of the UNCEEA

The UN Committee of Experts on Environmental-Economic Accounting (UNCEEA) functions as an umbrella body to provide overall vision, coordination, prioritization and direction in the field of environmental-economic accounting. The UNCEEA meets once a year and is governed by the Bureau of the UNCEEA. 

The thirteenth meeting of the UNCEEA will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York:

Regional workshop on the SEEA Central Framework and SDG indicators

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), is organizing a training programme to strengthen the capacity of the countries of Western Asia and North Africa in support of the worldwide implementation of the SEEA 2012 Central Framework and environment-related Sustainable Development Goals indicators.
