Regional Training Workshop on the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting for countries in Africa

The Regional Training Workshop on the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting for countries in Africa is jointly organized by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), Statistics South Africa, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Gaborone Declaration for Sustainability in Africa (GDSA), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

The Training Workshop will be held in Pretoria, South Africa, from 28 to 31 October 2019, and is organized as part of the project “Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services” funded by the European Union, and implemented by UNSD, UNEP and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The Training Workshop is part of a blended Regional Training Programme that consists of: an online course, the in-person training workshop, and a follow-up phase (see concept note attached below).

The Regional Training Programme will start with the online course in late-August, which will provide an overview on the SEEA EEA. The online course consists of eight self-paced modules and five live webinars.

The Training Workshop (in-person phase) will take place on 28-31 October in Pretoria and will provide a unique opportunity for participants who have already acquired an understanding of basic SEEA EEA concepts to improve their knowledge through practical exercises and discussions on implementation issues. A subset of participants from countries in Africa that have demonstrated, through ongoing initiatives and plans, a strong commitment to implement the SEEA EEA, will be invited to attend the training workshop to further deepen their knowledge about the SEEA EEA.
