Kenya National Dissemination Workshop
Background
The United Nations Development Account (DA) “Environmental-Economic Accounting for Evidence-Based Policy in Africa and Asia” is a global project that seeks to address the technical and institutional barriers to the establishment of routinely produced environmental-economic accounts at the national level by national statistical offices (NSOs). In particular, the project aims to approach implementation of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) according to the global implementation strategy using a flexible and modular approach. In Kenya, the project is a collaborative effort between the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and the UN Statistics Division (UNSD).
Since the inception, the project focused on compiling water accounts for Kenya and developing a National Plan for Advancing Environmental-Economic Accounting in Kenya. With the water accounts having been compiled and the National Plan developed, they were presented at a National Dissemination Workshop attended by representatives of the various national agencies involved in environmental accounting, as well as members of the technical committee, and other partners.
Objective
The objective of the National Dissemination Workshop was to present and discuss the results of the first water account and the National Plan for Advancing Environmental-Economic Accounting in Kenya, and to provide visibility for the newly developed accounts among the national stakeholders.
