"Nature jobs" using environmental goods and services sector data, 2019

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) produces estimates for Environmental Goods and Services for the UK on an annual basis under the SEEA framework. The authors identified the activities captured in the EGSS (EGSS) sector estimates that may be nature-related, based on the Classifications of environmental protection activities (CEPAs) used and the activities themselves. These were management of forest ecosystems, organic agriculture, in-house environmental activities and managerial activities of government bodies. The initial estimates of employment, taken from EGSS, are presented as well as extensive discussion on the methodology used and how we used the EGSS framework. This is also includes identifying data gaps, which could be address in future research.
