Update from the African Natural Capital Accounting Community of Practice

Since its launch in July 2020, the NCA Community of Practice for Africa (NCA-CoP) has launched a new website of the Community, kindly developed and hosted by UNECA. The NCA-CoP website serves as the main source of information and communication about its activities, repository of relevant resources, and will also hold a discussion board to allow members to discuss relevant topics and stay in touch. In that respect, the NAC-CoP WhatsApp group has been very active and has successfully engaged the community members and kept them informed of any relevant information.

Over the past months, there were three webinars that have been organized under the Africa NCA-CoP. In July, a webinar on ocean accounting was held to inform members of the global initiatives related to the development of ocean accounts. The September webinar organized by the Capitals Coalition focused on working with the private sector and how to combine forces on natural capital. The most recent webinar, on 29 October, was held on the topic of use of natural capital accounts in policy scenario analysis and the guidelines being developed under the EU-funded Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services (NCAVES) project implemented by UN Environment and UNSD.

For the latest developments and upcoming events, please see the NCA-CoP website or the dedicated UNSD website.
