Advancing Natural Capital Accounting in Ethiopia

From 3 to 7 April, the Statistics Division of the United Nations, in collaboration with the Global Program for Sustainability of the World Bank, conducted a technical assistance mission in Ethiopia to advance the Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) programme in the country.

The objective of the mission was to conduct technical training workshops and initiate work on the compilation of land and ecosystem extent accounts, and to follow up with relevant institutes on data request and institutional arrangements to implement the technical assistance program.

The technical mission was successful with productive engagements with various government agencies and stakeholders. A two-day technical workshop to provide training and to advance the development of land and ecosystem services accounts and the ecosystem-based investment prioritization tools was held with over 30 participants.  Participants included members of the Technical Working Group, NCA focal points and relevant stakeholders from various line ministries and research institutes in Ethiopia.
